Our gallery event for the Mentor Arts program is really exciting. JDK Design, a handful of local area artists, and Mikey Welsh (yes, former bassist from Weezer) are all helping us out. We're each going to be designing our own skate decks and showing them in the upstairs gallery at the Firehouse, in conjunction with some sort of fantastical balloon animal show (?) taking place in the main gallery. Opening day is April 17.
I'm still trying to come up with something for my board. My brain keeps wandering back to Abe Lincoln and some sort of play on American pop iconography.
And of course this does mean that I will have to learn how to skate.
We're also going to be repainting the skate park down by the waterfront.
I've been working on two pieces for Art Fits Vermont, one of which will be shown with a bunch of other pieces from Burlington City Arts. We ended up turning the pieces into woodblock prints, which was obnoxious because the wood is some sort of press board. I guess all the Mentor Arts pieces are going to be displayed together in September, along with our prints.
My individual puzzle piece is not even close to being finished. It's a collaged self-portrait of sorts. I'm not sure when or if it will be displayed. I'd like to get my dad to do some work on it, as well. July 11 is the quadricentennial, so I guess I have some time.
